A first time for everything ...

On the 20th October 2018 the newly rebuilt engine got its first proper test. Not without a few hiccups on the way mind .......

The NEW engine was finally back on display for the first time at a newly laid track at Santa Pod. With a shiny addition to the top of the block and some more additions inside. The 'Good Times, Bad Times' car was back on the track for only the first time in 2018. After Mick and Ray had spent what must have felt like an eternity stripping, cleaning, building, crying over, bleeding on, swearing at, testing and tweaking, it was time to take it back to where it all started.
With a new guest in tow it was time to set up for the first run of the day. Unfortunately, as is likely to happen at an open RWYB, a street car decided to re paint the track with a nice coat of antifreeze causing some delay to the queue.
After the track was cleaned, lunch was eaten and the track was ready it was time to get ready once again.
The signal from the starter, the wave from Mick, and the simple push of a button later the engine roared into life. A few blips of the throttle to calm his nerves and Mick gets the beast moving round the corner up into the water. A stamp on the throttle and the first burnout is underway. A few seconds later and we're staged and waiting on the lights. Unfortunately excitement got the better of the team and we registered a red light for the first (and only) time of 2018.
Running out of power at the finish line meant for a slow time and speed but at least the first pass was completed for the heart of the car. That was sadly to be its only run of the day but it provided enough information to be getting on with more jobs for the winter.

Not only was it the first RWYB for the team in 2018 but the first ever trip to Santa Pod for Hannah. Even though she didn't quite get to see the best of what drag racing could be i'm sure Martin will be dragging her along to more meetings in the future. Even if its just to collect the coffee and ice cream!!
Stay posted for some more pictures and posts about the re-build and the next steps to get ready for what we hope is a more successful 2019
